Ara's (Newer)Musings...
When am I going to be able to stop saying that the economy is still in the dumper? We see little pinpoints of hope here and there, but the bad news appears to still significantly outweigh the good.
Not surprisingly, quasi-political movements like the Tea Party and the OWS protesters are making a lot of noise--mostly about who's the blame. I have no disagreement with the Tea Party's idea of smaller government and greater fiscal accountabillity (not spending money one doesn't have). It is almost mind-boggling that these positions have caused them to be labeled as "extremists."
On the other hand, I can certainly understand the frustration of some OWS protesters--at least those who would genuinely like to participate in a healthy capitalist economy. From what I'm seeing, however, this movement has no unifying message and seems to have more in common with socialism than anything else. Unfortunately, socialism has not been shown to be effective anywhere at any time.
